Tata Sierra’s ARAI Mileage Figures Finally Out, Thanks To An RTI, Not Tata Motors

TL; DR
  • Tata Sierra’s ARAI mileage figures were revealed via an RTI, not by Tata Motors officially.
  • The turbo petrol returns 13.5 kmpl, while the diesel returns an impressive 18.8 kmpl.
  • Despite the delayed disclosure, Sierra has crossed 10,000 deliveries and 1 lakh bookings in India.

If I recall correctly, Tata Motors released the Sierra SUV in November 2025. However, I don’t remember seeing the official ARAI-claimed mileage figures for the car, nor for the petrol or diesel powertrain. Apparently, Tata never released the official mileage numbers for the SUV, and they’ve been revealed in one of the most dramatic ways possible: through an RTI.

The Mileage Numbers

An X user, Vahan Warta, filed an RTI to obtain the official mileage figures for the Tata Sierra SUV and received a response sourced directly from ARAI.

  • The 1.5L TGDi Hyperion turbo petrol engine returns 13.5 kmpl, certified on December 11, 2025.
  • The 1.5L Kryojet diesel engine delivers a far better 18.8 kmpl, certified on November 21, 2025.
  • The 1.5L naturally-aspirated engine, meanwhile, hasn’t been certified yet.

Now, it’s not like the Tata Sierra is the only SUV in the segment that provides turbo petrol or diesel engines. However, it’s possibly the weight of the car and the exceptional power and torque figures that are returning a low claimed mileage figure.

It is worth noting that at the time of launch, Tata Motors had highlighted a record-breaking 29.9 kmpl mileage figure achieved during a 12-hour controlled run at the NATRAX racing ground, which also went down in the Indian Book of Records.

Sales Momentum Remains Strong

What’s even more interesting is the fact that the delayed disclosure about the Sierra’s claimed mileage figures hasn’t dented the sales. Deliveries of the new SUV began on January 15, 2026, and the automaker recently crossed the 10,000-unit delivery milestone, after getting over one lakh bookings.

Production is currently underway at the Sanand facility alongside the Nexon, with output expected to scale to around 15,000 units per month. A Sierra EV is also in the pipeline, expected to arrive by June 2026.
