Sennheiser has a knack for crafting audio gear that stands out, and the Accentum Open tries to carve a niche in the open-ear earbud space. These earbuds echo Apple’s AirPods in design, promising a light, airy listening experience for those who want to stay aware of their surroundings.

I’ve spent some time with them, and while they’re comfortable and functional for casual use, the question is whether they nail the full package or not? Pussy Here’s my take on what works, what doesn’t, and whether these are worth your time. Let’s dive in.

Sennheiser Accentum Open: Price & Availability

The Sennheiser Accentum Open costs ₹9,990 ($129.95) and are available in Black or Cream. You can purchase them through Amazon, Flipkart, or the official Sennheiser website in India, while in the US, they are available on Amazon. They come with a 2-year warranty.

Pros

  • Lightweight and comfortable open-ear design
  • Decent soundstage for open earbuds
  • Solid battery life (6.5 hours per charge, 28 hours with case)
  • IPX4 splash resistance
  • Responsive touch controls

Cons

  • Bass lacks rumble and punch
  • Poor microphone quality for calls
  • No app support or EQ customization
  • No wireless charging
  • No dual-device connection
  • Fit may not suit everyone

Sennheiser Accentum Open Review: Design and Comfort

Sennheiser Accentum Open

The Sennheiser Accentum Open earbuds could easily be mistaken for Apple’s AirPods, sporting a stemmed, open-ear design that sits lightly in your ears. At just 4.4 grams per bud, they’re lightweight, and the matte plastic finish gives them a clean look. The charging case (29.3 grams) is pocket-friendly but has a flimsy lid that snaps shut too quickly, which can be annoying.

The open-ear fit is fine for casual scenarios like walking or desk work, but it’s not rock-solid for high-energy activities like running, as the buds can feel a bit loose with movement. The IPX4 rating means they can handle sweat or light rain, which is nice for outdoor use. They’re comfortable for a couple of hours, but I wouldn’t want to wear them all day.

Sennheiser Accentum Open Review: Connectivity

Sennheiser Accentum Open

The Accentum Open uses Bluetooth 5.3 for quick pairing and stable connections. Getting them into pairing mode is quite frustrating as there is no pairing button. You have to first wear them and then press and hold both earbuds until you hear a sound, and they’ll appear on your device’s Bluetooth menu.

Codec support is limited to SBC and AAC, so high-res audio fans will be disappointed. The lack of a companion app means no customization options, which feels like a missed opportunity. Not only do you lose customization options, but setting up the earbuds also becomes less convenient.

Fortunately though, the earbuds support multipoint connectivity, letting you pair up to 8 devices and switch between them seamlessly. This means you can move from your laptop to your phone or tablet without needing to manually reconnect each time.

Sennheiser Accentum Open Review: Controls

Sennheiser Accentum Open

The touch controls on the stems are intuitive: single tap to play/pause, double tap for next/previous track, and long press for volume. They respond well, though I occasionally mis-tap because the touch area isn’t clearly defined.

The auto-pause feature when removing a bud works reliably, and you can use a single earbud while the other charges, which is handy. That said, there’s no way to customize controls or trigger a voice assistant (since there is no companion app), which feels limiting for the price.

Sennheiser Accentum Open Review: Sound

Sennheiser Accentum Open

The sound on the Accentum Open is fine for open earbuds, but it’s not something I’d want to daily drive. The open design creates a spacious, airy soundstage, which is great for podcasts or casual music listening. Vocals and mids are clear, and the highs have a crisp, light quality that adds a bit of liveliness.

The bass, however, is a weak spot. There’s no rumble or punch, so genres like hip-hop or EDM feel flat, with the bassline barely making an impact. The open design also lets in ambient noise, which can overpower the audio in busy settings like a café or street.

If you want an immersive, energetic sound, these won’t satisfy. They’re okay for background tunes but lack the depth for a captivating experience. Also, there’s no first-party EQ tool for these earbuds since there is no companion app. You can, however, still use apps like Wavelet to EQ the Accentum Open.

Sennheiser Accentum Open Review: Microphones and Calling

Sennheiser Accentum Open

The microphones are a low point. Call quality is not up to the mark, with my voice sounding muffled and distant, even in quiet environments. In noisier settings like a busy street, background sounds bleed in heavily, making it hard for the other person to hear me. The dual beamforming mics with AI noise suppression don’t seem to do much. If calls are a priority, you might want to look elsewhere.

Sennheiser Accentum Open Review: Battery and Charging

Sennheiser Accentum Open

Battery life on the Accentum Open is solid. Sennheiser claims 6 hours of playback per charge and up to 28 hours with the case. In my tests, I managed around 5 to 6 hours at moderate volume, which I’d still consider good.

A 10-minute quick charge delivers about 1.5 hours of playback, but the lack of wireless charging is disappointing at this price. The case charges via USB-C in about an hour, which is standard.

Review Verdict: Should You Buy the Sennheiser Accentum Open?

The Sennheiser Accentum Open, priced at ₹9,990, is a decent option if you want lightweight, open-ear earbuds for casual use in quiet settings. The airy fit and spacious soundstage make them comfortable for short listening sessions, and the battery life is reliable. However, the lack of bass punch, poor microphone quality, and absence of app support hold them back.

For me, they’re not engaging enough to be my go-to earbuds. If you prioritize staying aware of your surroundings and don’t mind sacrificing deep bass or call clarity, they’re worth considering. But if you want richer sound or better call performance, you might want to look at alternatives like the AirPods 4 or Galaxy Buds3.
