X, formerly known as Twitter, has expanded its passkey support to include iPhone users worldwide. While passkeys were initially limited to iOS users in the United States, they are now accessible to all users on the platform.

Passkeys are essentially your lock screen password and biometrics—Face ID and Touch ID—that can be used for authentication. So, the next time you want to log into X, you can use Face ID, Touch ID, or your iPhone’s passcode instead of typing out complex passwords.

Passkeys are a replacement to your passwords and they are being quickly adopted by several tech giants. Apple introduced the feature with iOS 16 and it has been adopted by several apps ever since.

Their resistance to online attacks like phishing enhances security compared to traditional passwords. The feature has already been adopted by companies like Google, PayPal, Best Buy, eBay, Dashlane, and Microsoft.

If you want to learn how to use passkeys on X, follow the steps below.

  1. Open the X app.
  2. Tap on your profile picture to open the sidebar.
  3. Expand Settings and privacy and tap on Security and account access.
  4. Then, tap on Security.
  5. Tap on Passkey and enter your X password.
  6. Select Add a passkey, and follow the on-screen prompts to finish the setup.

We believe that passwords—which have long been the standard—will eventually become a backup method as more companies and users adopt passkeys. The convenience, security, and ease of use of passkeys indicate that they are the future of identity authentication.
