The Google Pixel 10 and 10 Pro just launched, but the leak cycle for Google’s next budget phone is already starting. The first CAD-based renders of the Pixel 10a have surfaced online, and they tell a clear story: Google is playing it safe to protect the price tag.

The renders, first released by OnLeaks with his partners, show a phone that looks nearly identical to the Pixel 9a (review). But the real story isn’t the familiar design, it’s the strategy behind it.

All signs suggest Google is preparing an incremental update, reusing key components from the 9a to fight rising manufacturing costs.

The leak suggests Google’s strategy for its 2026 budget phone is simple. If it isn’t broken, don’t fix it… and don’t make it more expensive.

Why An Old Chip for a New Phone?

The most significant rumor accompanying these renders is that the Pixel 10a will not use the new Tensor G5 chip found in the flagship Pixel 10.

Instead, it’s expected to use a “boosted” version of the Tensor G4, the exact same processor that’s already in the Pixel 9a.

This is a deliberate cost-cutting move. The new Tensor G5, manufactured by TSMC, is significantly more expensive to produce. By sticking with the G4 and reusing the Pixel 9a’s body (or “chassis”), Google can save a fortune on R&D and manufacturing, allowing it to aim for its target price.

What’s New vs. What’s Recycled

Based on the leaks, the Pixel 10a is a story of calculated trade-offs:

  • What’s Likely Recycled:
    • Processor: Tensor G4 (from the Pixel 9a).
    • Design: The overall 6.2-inch body, flat edges, and plastic back.
    • Battery: The large 5,100mAh battery from the 9a is rumored to return.
    • Cameras: The camera setup is expected to be identical to the 9a.
  • What’s (Slightly) New:
    • Bezels: The renders show bezels that appear slightly thinner, closer to the look of the standard Pixel 10.
    • Camera Module: The pill-shaped camera housing is packed a bit tighter, but the sensors inside are likely unchanged.

This makes the Pixel 10a an incremental update, but a significant one for budget-conscious buyers. While the renders show slightly slimmer bezels, other sources are skeptical, suggesting they may be just as thick as the 9a’s.

Pixel 10a Price and Release Date

At this point of time, all rumors point to Google fighting to keep the 10a at its $499 (approx. Rs 44,000) starting price. Google’s ‘a’ series always launches in the spring, typically around its Google I/O developer conference.  The Pixel 10a is expected to arrive in Spring 2026 (March-May)
