Several reports claim that Apple is working on one of the most significant overhauls for the upcoming Apple Watch series. Apple could release the successor to the current Watch Series 9, the Watch X, during its September event. Most recently, a rumor from Digitimes claims that the upcoming smartwatch will use a new resin-coated copper (RCC) design for its motherboard.

Apple Watch X: Design

In the past, renowned Apple tipster Ming-Chi Kuo has also claimed the presence of an RCC mainboard on the iPhone 17. Kuo mentioned that the new material could reduce the thickness of the motherboard and make the drilling process easier.

Unless both the sources are talking about a different type of RCC, we could see similar changes in the Apple Watch X.

The use of RCC in the upcoming Apple Watch could have multiple advantages. First, it could reduce the mainboard’s thickness, making space for additional components. Now, Apple could utilize the extra space in a couple of ways. While it could be used to expand the size of the battery, it could also fit in some new sensors.

The RCC Motherboard Could Result In A Slimmer Apple Watch

On the other hand, Apple could stick with the current specifications. However, reducing the logic board’s thickness could also result in a slimmer Apple Watch X. Nonetheless, since Apple likes to take its sweet time implementing significant changes, the Watch X could launch in 2025.

According to a report from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the Apple Watch X intends to celebrate the product’s 10th birthday. Since Apple announced the original Apple Watch in 2014, it would make sense for the company to release the Watch X this year, i.e., in 2024.

Apple Watch X: Improved Screen And New Sensors

In addition to a slimmer profile, the Watch X could sport a microLED screen. The screen could also feature LTPO technology to improve the overall battery life. Further, the device could feature a new sensor to measure blood pressure.

Apple could also release a new system for detecting sleep apnea with the upcoming watch. Although the company is also working on a non-invasive method to check blood sugar levels, it is unlikely to launch with the Watch X.

Apple Watch X: Magnetic Bands

Another significant change that could come with the Watch X is magnetic bands. All the company’s latest smartwatches, including Series 9 and Watch Ultra 2, come with a mechanical lock that keeps the bands in place. However, with the upcoming smartwatch, Apple could introduce a new mechanism with strong magnets on either side of the watch.

Apple Watch X: AI-Powered Health Tools

With the Apple Watch Series 9, the company released on-device processing for a few Siri commands like settings alarms or timers. However, with the Watch X, the company is planning to release a new AI-based coaching program. The new program will give users insights into their health (through a possible integration with the Health app) and recommend exercise and diet routines.

Apple Watch X: Release Date

As mentioned earlier, Watch X could debut with the iPhone 16 lineup at the September launch event. However, it is important to remember that the company hasn’t confirmed any of these details. Hence, readers should take them with a pinch of salt.
