TL; DR
  • vivo X Fold5 will support Apple Watch (Series 9, Ultra, etc) natively.
  • World’s lightest and extremely thin foldable, with Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 inside.
  • Launching this month in China, next month in India.

vivo has started officially teasing its upcoming foldable, the X Fold5, and this time it’s not just about hardware upgrades. In a Weibo post from vivo executive Han Boxiao, the company confirmed that the X Fold5 will feature native support for Apple Watch, something almost unheard of on Android.

This means Apple Watch users won’t have to stay locked into the iPhone ecosystem if they decide to switch to vivo’s foldable. The post highlights that the X Fold5 will allow Apple Watch to connect for call alerts, notifications, and health data syncing directly with vivo’s health app. This should work with models like the Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra.

Oh, and it will work with Mac, iPhone, and AirPods seamlessly too.

This move could be a major selling point for many users who want to shift away from the iPhone but are hesitant because of their Apple Watch. vivo directly addressed this problem, saying that users won’t have to abandon their Apple Watch if they pick up the X Fold5.

The vivo X Fold5 will be the world’s lightest book-style foldable

Beyond this Apple Watch integration, vivo is also heavily focusing on making the X Fold5 stand out in terms of design and performance. It is said to be the world’s lightest foldable phone and will also be extremely thin, addressing one of the most common complaints people have with foldables today. The lighter and thinner profile should make it far more comfortable for everyday use while still delivering a large folding display.

Under the hood, the vivo X Fold5 is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, and not the latest 8 Elite. Still, this puts it right alongside the top of the current foldable performance charts, giving it enough power for multitasking, gaming, and future-proof daily usage. The device will also feature IP56 + IP58 + IP59+ water and dust resistance rating, which is the best in the industry.
