The café was packed, and I was trying to capture a candid of my friend mid-laugh when a stranger at the next table leaned over. “That’s the new vivo, right? The one with the ZEISS telephoto?”

I nodded, slightly surprised. “How did you?”

“The camera module,” they said, pointing at the distinctive metallic ring. “I’ve been reading about the launch. Is the telephoto really that good in low light?”

Over the past week, I’ve had the opportunity to spend time with both the vivo V70 and V70 Elite as part of an early review program, and conversations like this have become frequent. The devices spark a different kind of attention—not just for what they look like, but for what they represent: a complete reimagining of what a premium mid-range phone can deliver in 2026.

With the V70 and V70 Elite, vivo isn’t just iterating on its popular camera-centric lineup. They’re redefining the V-series as a truly powerful all-rounder in the segment, engineered to keep pace with the way modern users capture everyday celebrations, work, and play.

A Fresh Design Language That Announces Arrival

The first thing that sets the V70 series apart is what you feel before you even look at the screen: the aerospace-grade metal frame.

In a segment where most devices opt for plastic or glass builds, vivo has chosen a different path. That metal frame—cool to the touch, reassuringly solid—communicates a premium philosophy that extends the V-series’ design-led legacy into new territory. This isn’t just about flagship aesthetics. It’s about delivering genuine flagship materials at this price point.

Vivo V70 Review

But vivo hasn’t sacrificed usability for premium feel. The 6.59-inch display hits what the brand calls the “Golden Grip size”—that perfect balance between immersive entertainment and comfortable one-handed use. Whether gaming during commutes, watching content, or scrolling through feeds, the form factor feels considered and ergonomic.

Then there are the bezels. Both V70 and V70 Elite feature ultra slim bezels. The difference is immediately noticeable—the 1.5K Ultra Clear OLED display feels like it’s floating, with content bleeding almost to the edges. Combined with 459 PPI pixel density, local peak brightness of 5000 nits, and 100% P3 wide color gamut, this is a screen that rivals devices costing significantly more.

Vivo V70 Review

The color palette reflects vivo’s attention to emotional design. Passion Red (available on both V70 and V70 Elite) represents vitality and bold elegance. Lemon Yellow (V70 only) brings a fresh pop of color to the lineup. Sand Beige and Authentic Black (V70 Elite only) embody timeless sophistication. I’ve been using the V70 Elite in Passion Red, and it’s striking—a deep, sophisticated crimson that shifts between boldness and elegance depending on the light.

The Camera That Redefines Mobile Photography

Here’s where the V70 series moves from impressive to exceptional: the 50 MP ZEISS Night Telephoto Camera.

A proper telephoto lens in this segment is rare. A telephoto optimized for low light with a 1.3 cm sensor—the largest in its class—is essentially unprecedented. This is the only ZEISS telephoto in its category, and it represents vivo’s commitment to bringing flagship imaging capabilities to the V-series.

I’ve been testing this extensively, and the results have been consistently impressive. During Delhi’s wedding season, at a sangeet ceremony with typical dim, mixed lighting, I shot from the back of the venue using the 3x optical zoom. The expressions captured from 20 feet away were sharp, detailed, and properly exposed. No noise, no muddy colors, no compromises.

The telephoto’s utility extends across every scenario where distance matters. Walking through Lodhi Garden at dusk, I spotted a kingfisher perched about 30 feet away. With the 3x zoom, I captured frame-filling detail—the iridescent blue feathers, the sharp orange beak, even the texture of the branch.

But the camera system is more than just the telephoto. The 50 MP ZEISS OIS Main Camera uses a Sony LYT-700V sensor with optical image stabilization. The 8 MP ZEISS Ultra Wide-Angle Camera captures expansive landscapes and group shots. The 50 MP ZEISS Group Selfie Camera with 92-degree wide-angle ensures everyone fits in the frame. Every lens meets ZEISS optical standards—a collaboration that brings decades of photographic heritage into mobile imaging.

4K 60fps Video: Creator-Grade Content in Your Pocket

The V70 series delivers 4K 60fps video with Zoom Clarity at 1x, 2x, and 3x. Despite the change in zoom, the footage remains stable, sharp, and fluid and at 60fps, every pan looked cinematic.

Most phones that offer 4K 60fps compromise on zoom—either the footage stutters, or aggressive digital cropping degrades quality. Both vivo V70 and V70 Elite maintain smooth, sharp, rich footage across all zoom levels. That’s advanced ISP processing and ZEISS optics working in harmony to deliver creator-grade results.

ZEISS Multifocal Portrait: Professional Photography, Democratized

The ZEISS Multifocal Portrait feature represents something special: computational imaging that respects photographic tradition while making it accessible to everyone.

vivo has recreated five classic focal lengths—23mm, 35mm, 50mm, 85mm, and 100mm—each paired with authentic ZEISS bokeh characteristics. The 50mm Classic Portrait with ZEISS Biotar Style Bokeh produces those distinctive olive-shaped light spots and swirled backgrounds. The 85mm Figure Portrait with ZEISS Sonnar Style Bokeh offers creamy flares and emotional portraits with vivid colors and contrasting tones.

I shot portraits at a friend’s rooftop gathering using each focal length. The results made mundane shots look like they belonged in a fashion editorial.

India-First AI Imagery Features That Feel Relevant

vivo’s AI implementation isn’t about generic filters. The V70 series brings AI features designed specifically for how people in India capture and celebrate life.

India’s Exclusive AI Holi Portrait (available from 19 February, 2026 to 15 March, 2026) automatically identifies subjects and festive settings, creating vivid, colorful portraits that radiate the joy of Holi. I tested it a recent celebration, and the AI intelligently applied colors to faces and clothing while respecting skin tones and maintaining natural lighting.

AI Floral Blessing takes celebratory photography further. Powered by self-developed AI models and advanced cloud-side processing, this feature automatically adds realistic, culturally celebratory petal showers to portraits, creating a live video/images effect. It adds cascading petals, like roses and marigolds, added an emotional richness that elevates simple portraits into memorable keepsakes. The petals look natural, falling with realistic physics and lighting that matches the scene.

AI Magic Weather addresses a universal frustration: grey, cloudy days that ruin perfectly composed photos. Using the Evening Glow preset, the AI added golden-hour warmth and dimension. Choose from four effects—Morning Glow, Clear Sky, Evening Glow, and Twilight—and give every photo the atmosphere it deserves.

AI Magic Landscape transforms travel portraits with three presets—Island, Desert, or Snow Town. The AI enhances lighting and colors, adds environmental details like golden desert sunsets, and removes distracting passersby.

Performance That Matches Flagship Ambitions

The V70 Elite is powered by the flagship-level Snapdragon 8s Gen 3, a chipset built on 4nm process architecture. The mega core runs at up to 3.0 GHz with a benchmark score of 1.89 million, delivering superior performance and reduced power consumption.

It can handle 20+ Chrome tabs, Spotify streaming, Google Maps navigation, while simultaneously downloading app updates and replying to WhatsApp messages. The V70 Elite didn’t stutter once. Apps launches instantly, multitasking remains seamless.

The standard V70 features the Snapdragon 7 Gen 4, representing a massive leap with 27% increase in CPU performance, 30% improvement in GPU performance, and 26% better gaming efficiency compared to the previous generation.

Both phones feature the latest LPDDR5X and UFS 4.1 memory—75% faster operating speed and 300% higher sequential read/write performance compared to the V60 series. Apps install faster, games load quicker, and file transfers happen at desktop-like speeds.

Gaming and Tactile Excellence

The V70 Elite’s support for 90fps gaming in compatible titles elevates mobile gaming to competitive-level performance. I played several rounds of BGMI with “Ultra Game Mode” activated, and the experience was impressively immersive.

The X-Axis Linear Motor delivers crisp, precise vibration feedback. But the standout is 4D Gaming Vibration (exclusive to the V70 Elite)—in-game actions like ultimate skills, shooting, and collisions trigger distinct haptic feedback patterns, creating experiences where you feel the game, not just see it.

The haptics extend beyond gaming. Typing on the keyboard has satisfying feedback that makes even long-form writing pleasant. These are details that separate thoughtfully engineered devices from those that simply spec components.

The Battery That Liberates

Vivo V70 Review

Despite the slim profile and premium metal frame, vivo has engineered a 6,500mAh BlueVolt battery into both devices—one of the largest in the segment.

My usage has been heavy during testing: constant email syncing, Slack notifications, video calls, photography sessions, and evening gaming. The V70 Elite consistently gave me a full day with 30-40% remaining. On lighter days, I pushed into the second day without issue.

90W FlashCharge ensures that when you need to charge, you’re not waiting long. I plugged in at 15% before a morning shower; by the time I was ready to leave, the phone was back above 70%.

Security Innovation and Durability

The 3D Ultrasonic Fingerprint Scanning 2.0 solves a problem optical sensors struggle with: reliability with wet or dirty fingers. During my testing, it worked flawlessly even after washing my hands, during workouts with sweaty fingers, or in light rain. The technology also brings 3D Anti-Spoofing for enhanced security and faster enrollment through a sliding motion rather than repeated taps.

Both devices carry IP68 and IP69 top-grade dust and water resistance. They can be submerged in still fresh water up to 1.5 meters deep for up to 120 minutes and withstand high-pressure, high-temperature water jets.

OriginOS 6: Intelligence That Anticipates Your Needs

Vivo V70 Review

The V70 series ships with OriginOS 6, representing vivo’s vision for how software should work: intelligently, intuitively, and without demanding conscious thought.

Origin Island – Drag & Go is contextual computing at its finest. Long-press any text, image, or document and drag it to the Origin Island. The AI identifies the content and automatically opens the relevant app. I’ve been using this constantly—dragging addresses from messages to automatically launch Google Maps with directions. No copy-paste, no app switching, no friction.

AI Captions auto-transcribes meetings in real-time, provides real-time translation to overcome language barriers, and extracts key takeaways with one tap. For professionals juggling multiple meetings, this feature is transformative.

AI Creation helps you brainstorm and refine ideas. Jot down a quick thought, and let AI Creation expand it, refine the phrasing, and polish it for presentation.

vivo Office Kit makes cross-device work seamless across your phone, computer, and iPad. One-Tap Transfer enables sharing photos, videos, and files between two vivo devices—or between vivo and Apple devices—simply by tapping them together.

3D Spatial Effect Wallpaper lets you turn almost any wallpaper into a depth based scene, so the image subtly shifts and reveals a 3D effect when you tilt your phone. And Flip Cards add a playful touch to the lock screen, where a gentle tilt flips the card and brings your photos to life with a layered motion effect.

vivo is offering four years of OS updates and six years of security updates with the V70 series—ensuring the devices remain secure, current, and relevant through 2030.

The Most Evolved V-Series Yet

After spending extensive time with both the vivo V70 and V70 Elite, what becomes clear is that these devices represent the culmination of the brand’s learnings, innovations, and commitment to delivering comprehensive premium experiences in the segment/among its competitors.

They extend the V-series’ design-led legacy with aerospace-grade metal frames and the segment’s narrowest bezels. They elevate flagship camera capabilities with ZEISS-tuned optics, including that exceptional night telephoto and 4K 60fps zoom clarity. They deliver power-packed performance with flagship-level chipsets and cutting-edge memory technologies. They introduce innovative India-first AI features that feel culturally relevant and genuinely useful. And they provide an out-of-box OriginOS 6 experience that makes daily interactions more intelligent and intuitive.

Whether you’re a content creator, a gamer, or someone who just wants a phone that works flawlessly for the next five years, the V70 series delivers.
