2025 was a good year for the car market in India. Not only did we see many interesting launches, it was one of the super rare occasions where cars got cheaper, thanks to the new GST rates. Throughout the year, Maruti Suzuki remained the top brand, selling the most number of cars with total sales of 18,06,515, taking a total share of over 42 percent. Let us take a look at the top 6 brands of 2025:

Throughout the year, the car market was led by Maruti Suzuki, which finished the year with total sales of over 18,06,515. Maruti maintained its leadership across all quarters, supported by a broad range of models from entry-level hatchbacks like the Maruti Suzuki Swift, Baleno to compact SUVs like the Brezza and Grand Vitara and MPVs like the Ertiga or the Invicto, and showed particularly strong performance in the second half of the year.

Behind Maruti Suzuki, Mahindra came second with annual sales of 6,25,603, driven primarily by its SUV-focused lineup including models like the Scorpio, XUV 700, Thar and the Mahindra Bolero.

Tata Motors closely followed Mahindra with 5,78,772 vehicles sold in 2025. Tata’s performance was anchored by strong demand for its SUVs like the Safari and Harrier along with the brand’s growing electric vehicle offerings like the Nexon or the Harrier EV. Tata sales rose in the second half of the year thanks to festive demand and GST cuts.

Hyundai ended the year just behind Tata at number 4, recording 5,71,878 units sold. The brand posted steady volumes throughout 2025, with a popular product portfolio like the Hyundai Creta, Verna, Venue, Alcazar, and more.

Toyota also delivered a solid performance, finishing the year with approximately 3,51,580 units sold. Toyota benefited from continued demand for its MPV and SUV models, including the Innova Hycross and the Urban Cruiser Hyryder. Toyota saw better sales in the second half of the year.

Rounding out the top six, Kia achieved total sales of 280,286 units in 2025. Kia has been a popular brand in the country and has been selling good volumes with models such as the Seltos, Sonet and the Carens.

In total, the top 6 brands combined sold 42,14,634 cars in 2025. Now, this number is only for the top 6 brands, in total the number would easily cross 1 crore. Now more 1 crore cars are being sold every year, which is good for the people buying them, but given the infrastructure and the maintenance of it, we are staring at a potential problem, if the number of cars going off the roads is not as big.
