The Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 and the Dimensity 9400e are the latest upper mid-range chipsets from Qualcomm and MediaTek, respectively. These chips are essentially “lite” versions of their flagship counterparts. Both are built on TSMC’s 4nm process, so they’re efficient and powerful.

The Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 uses a 1+3+2+2 CPU cluster, with one prime core, three performance cores, and two each of efficiency and secondary performance cores. On the other hand, the Dimensity 9400e has a 1+3+4 setup, with one prime core, three performance cores, and four efficiency cores.

The iQOO Neo 10, which launched today, features the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4. Meanwhile, the realme GT 7, powered by the Dimensity 9400e, is set to launch tomorrow. So, how do these two chips compare, both in benchmarks and in real-world use cases? Let us find out in this comparison.

CPU and GPU Specs

So, before we dive into the performance, let’s take a look at the architecture of both chipsets. Starting with the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4, the CPU is structured as 1 x 3.21 GHz Cortex-AX4 core, 3 x 3.0 GHz Cortex-A720 cores, 2 x 2.8 GHz Cortex-A720 cores, and 2 x 2.02 GHz Cortex-A720 cores.

On the other hand, the Dimensity 9400e comes with 1 x 3.4 GHz Cortex-AX4 core, 3 x 2.85 GHz Cortex-AX4 cores, and 4 x 2.0 GHz Cortex-A720 cores. Both the iQOO Neo 10 and the realme G7 that we’re testing are configured with 16 GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 512 GB of UFS 4.0 storage.

Now, moving to the GPU side: the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 is equipped with the Adreno 825 GPU, clocked at 1.15 GHz, whereas the Dimensity 9400e features the Mali-G720 GPU, clocked at 1.3 GHz. So, on paper, the 9400e’s GPU seems to have a slight edge.

Synthetic Benchmarks

We ran several benchmarks, and here are the results. The iQOO Neo 10, powered by the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4, is slightly behind the realme GT 7 with the Dimensity 9400e, but the gap isn’t significant.

Interestingly, the iQOO Neo 10 pulls ahead in the GPU Vulkan score, even though it generally trails a bit in other tests. Both devices were tested in their highest performance modes: Monster mode for the iQOO Neo 10 and GT mode for the realme GT 7.

Gaming Performance

When it comes to gaming, the realme GT 7 runs noticeably cooler, often a few degrees lower than the iQOO Neo 10, while still maintaining high average FPS in all three games that we tested. Meanwhile, the iQOO Neo 10’s strength lies in its 144 fps frame interpolation support for BGMI and Genshin Impact, although it does run hotter.

In terms of frame rates and consistency, both phones are quite close in most scenarios. Wuthering Waves shows a slight edge for realme GT 7, with an average FPS of 58.3 and a 5% low of 52.9 FPS. For BGMI, the iQOO Neo 10 averages 116.8 FPS, but the realme GT 7 edges it out with 118.2 FPS and better 5% lows. Genshin Impact performance is similar, with realme GT 7 showing a bit cooler temps.

Conclusion

So now to conclude things, the Dimensity 9400e actually runs cooler than the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4. Now this could be because of the devices that we have tested, that is the realme GT 7 and the iQOO Neo 10.

But the iQOO Neo 10 with the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 is no slouch. You can get excellent 144 FPS gaming in BGMI and even in Genshin Impact. And the performance is quite good. It even has got a ton of features like 4D Game Vibration, Super Resolution, among others.

At the end of the day, both chips are powerful enough for even the most demanding games, and you won’t be disappointed with either one. But if you care about temperatures and a bit more battery life, the Dimensity 9400e on the realme GT 7 edges ahead. So which one would be your pick? The Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 or the Dimensity 9400e?
