TL; DR
  • On August 11, 2025, a Samsung smartphone with the model number “SM-S947U” appeared on the GeekBench 6 database.
  • Interestingly, the chipset has two prime cores clocked at 4.74GHz (higher than the Snapdragon 8 Elite’s 4.32GHz), and six performance cores clocked at 3.63GHz (slightly higher than the 8 Elite’s 3.53GHz performance cores).

Even though Samsung just launched the Galaxy S25 Edge (review) three months ago, the company is already working on the sleek flagship’s successor. A new GeekBench listing suggests that the S26 Edge is in development, and, more importantly, with Qualcomm’s upcoming mobile processor.

Galaxy S26 Edge Appears On GeekBench 6

Snapdragon. 8 Elite 2 GeekBench listing

On August 11, 2025, a Samsung smartphone with the model number “SM-S947U” appeared on the GeekBench 6 database. Since the Galaxy S25 Edge had the model number “SM-S937B,” the “S947” could be its successor.

Hence, the GeekBench listing could belong to the upcoming Galaxy S26 Edge. The ‘U’ at the end implies it is a United States variant.

The Listing Gives Us The First Glimpse At the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2

The listing reveals key details about the handset’s processor. For instance, it has an “ARMv8” architecture and a total of eight processing cores.

Interestingly, the chipset has two prime cores clocked at 4.74GHz (higher than the Snapdragon 8 Elite’s 4.32GHz), and six performance cores clocked at 3.63GHz (slightly higher than the 8 Elite’s 3.53GHz performance cores).

While the chipset’s motherboard is codenamed “canoe,” the handset featured it alongside 10.84GB of available memory (likely a 12GB variant). Further, it was running Android 16 at the time of the test (likely some version of One UI 8.0).

From what it looks like, this is the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 SoC, Qualcomm’s unreleased chipset that will break cover at the Qualcomm Summit scheduled for September 23 to 25, 2025.

8 Elite 2 vs. 8 Elite: GeekBench Scores Compared

Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 May Offer 25% Better CPU Performance With Second-Generation Oryon Cores: Tipster

And now, the most important part of a GeekBench listing, it scores 3,393 points in the single-core and 11,515 points in the multi-core GeekBench 6 test. When compared to the Galaxy S25 Ultra’s scores from our review (3,100/9,905), the 8 Elite 2 looks like a modest upgrade at best.

However, the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 might not perform to the best of its ability in the Galaxy S26 Edge, given that it has a sleek phone with tightly-packed interiors and inferior thermal management to the top-tier Ultra variant.

A report by notebookcheck.net confirms this hypothesis. Per the publication, GeekBench’s back-end reveals that the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 is throttled at 4.0GHz instead of the peak 4.74GHz clock speed.

The First Phone With Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 Could Arrive As Early As September

Qualcomm’s CEO has already confirmed Xiaomi to be the first manufacturer to use the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 SoC on one of its flagships. The Xiaomi 15, with the 8 Elite chipset, debuted in China on October 29, 2024. This year, the company might bring forward the Xiaomi 16’s launch to late September or early October.

After Xiaomi, it could be realme that features the upcoming chipset in a GT 8 series flagship. While the other Chinese flagships that arrive later this year might feature a MediaTek chipset, the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra should also be based on Qualcomm’s cutting-edge solution.
