TL; DR
  • Samsung skips One UI 7.1, jumps to One UI 8 beta for the Galaxy S25 series.
  • One UI 8, built on Android 16, brings smoother animations, refined blur, and minor tweaks.
  • Stable One UI 8 expected shortly after Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7 launch in July 2025.

Samsung is rewriting the software update timeline with the unexpected early launch of its One UI 8 beta program, just two to three months after completing the One UI 7 rollout. In a surprise move, Samsung has already begun rolling out the One UI 8 beta for the Galaxy S25, S25+, and S25 Ultra in Korea, Germany, the UK, and the US.

One UI 8, built on Google’s latest Android 16, will be unveiled officially alongside the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7, which are expected to debut in July. Yes, this means that the Z Flip 7 and the Z Fold 7 will come with One UI 8 out of the box.

Thanks to close collaboration between Samsung and Google, the development process for One UI 8 was accelerated, resulting in Samsung becoming the first brand to integrate Android 16 into its software ecosystem.

There is no One UI 7.1

Samsung is skipping its expected One UI 7.1 update altogether and moving straight to One UI 8, which is already in the beta stage for the Galaxy S25 series. Given this timeline, the stable One UI 8 build should arrive shortly after the new foldables hit the market.

One UI 8 Expected Features

One UI 8

While One UI 8 doesn’t promise a major overhaul compared to One UI 7, it focuses on refining the software experience. Early previews suggest the update will introduce smoother animations and a more cohesive system-wide blur effect, enhancing the fluidity and visual polish of Samsung’s UI.

Subtle tweaks are also present in the Gallery app, Weather app, and other system applications, where users may see cleaner layouts and better transitions. Samsung is also subtly improving the Quick Panel animations, adding to the overall smoother feel.

AI is a big part of One UI 8, adding new multimodal features that blend different ways of interacting with your device. This update also tailors the experience for the various device types in the Galaxy lineup and introduces more personalised suggestions to help users get more out of their devices.

Samsung has improved the Now Bar and Now Brief features, making them more intuitive and useful. The Reminder app, now reimagined as a travel companion, also sees an upgrade with smarter features that aim to help users on the go.

Unsurprisingly, this new update won’t be the dramatic UI shift that One UI 7 represented when it launched. Instead, it’s a more restrained release, focusing on stability and gradual enhancements rather than sweeping changes.

One UI 8 Release Date

As the beta phase unfolds, Samsung users can expect to see more details and feature updates roll out incrementally. The stable version of One UI 8 should be available soon after the new foldable flagships land, that is in July 2025. What are your thoughts on One UI 8? Let us know in the comments section below.
