TL; DR
  • According to several reports, Samsung neared a wide-ranging deal with the AI startup early in June 2025 to integrate Perplexity’s technology into its devices.
  • Recent reports suggest that the iPhone maker is also interested in bidding for Perplexity AI or establishing a partnership to integrate the advanced search tools into Safari and improve Siri.
  • The discussions at Apple remain internal, and there’s no official bid to acquire Perplexity AI entirely or partially.
  • “Apple, Samsung, and Meta are interested in acquiring Perplexity AI primarily to bolster their artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities and to remain competitive in the rapidly evolving tech landscape,” says Perplexity AI’s search tool.

After Samsung and Meta, the Cupertino-based tech giant Apple has shown interest in acquiring Perplexity AI. The San Francisco-based startup was co-founded in 2022 by Aravind Srinivas. Currently, the startup has a valuation of $14 billion, which makes it quite expensive, even for the largest tech companies in the world.

But has any company’s investment or acquisition bid gone through? Why are the Silicon Valley CEOs suddenly interested in acquiring the relatively small-scale AI startup, and could they benefit from it? Here’s a deep dive into what’s going on, what impact the Perplexity AI acquisition could have on operations, and how Samsung, Meta, and Apple could benefit from the deal.

Samsung Plans To Integrate Perplexity’s Search Tool Into Its Smartphones

According to several reports, Samsung neared a wide-ranging deal with the AI startup early in June 2025 to integrate Perplexity’s technology into its devices. Discussions included preloading Perplexity’s app and assistant on Samsung’s upcoming device, integrating its search features into the company’s web browser, and improving the Bixby assistant using the AI startup’s capabilities.

While Samsung already has one of the largest sets of AI-based features available on smartphones (dubbed Galaxy AI), integrating Perplexity AI’s search tool could help differentiate its devices from competitors by offering an advanced yet conversational search experience. The investment could also solidify Samsung’s position as a leader in AI innovation and adaptation.

Even though Samsung aimed to announce the partnership in 2025 (so that everything falls in place for its Galaxy S26 series in January 2026), there have been no formal agreements or statements about the same.

Apple’s Executives Are Reportedly Discussing Acquiring Perplexity

Recent reports suggest that the iPhone maker is also interested in bidding for Perplexity AI or establishing a partnership to integrate the advanced search tools into Safari and improve Siri. Even though the company hasn’t extended a formal offer yet, it is under considerable pressure to catch up in the generative AI innovation space and its integration on consumer-ready devices.

Every year, Google pays approximately $20 billion to Apple to remain the default search engine on the Safari browser. However, due to the United States antitrust scrutiny, Apple could potentially lose its revenue stream, which makes the company even more likely to acquire Perplexity AI and integrate its search engine into the Safari app. In addition to this, the startup’s team could help Apple bolster its AI division.

The discussions at Apple remain internal, and there’s no official bid to acquire Perplexity AI entirely or partially. It appears that Apple is taking a cautious approach, as a $14 billion investment (potentially the largest for the Cupertino giant since its acquisition of Beats for $3 billion) could either prove to be an immediate success or exacerbate the company’s troubles.

According to a Reuters report, Perplexity currently has “no knowledge” of any current or future merger and acquisition discussions.

Before Investing In Scale AI, Meta Also Showed Interest In Perplexity AI

Imagine फीचर

Most recently, reports about Meta investing a whopping $14.3 billion in Scale AI for a 49% stake have flooded the internet. However, CNBC has confirmed that Mark Zuckerberg’s Meta also reached out to Perplexity AI for a potential takeover, but the two companies were unable to reach an agreement, and the talks were subsequently “mutually dissolved.”

The interest in Perplexity AI and the massive investment in Scale AI demonstrate Meta’s aggressive approach to integrating advanced AI-powered conversation tools into its social media platforms, which could positively impact user engagement.

What’s Working For Perplexity AI?

  • First and foremost, Perplexity AI’s search engine delivers conversational answers with real-time information from the internet (and proper citations), helping users conduct in-depth research about something with credible sources.
  • Perplexity already has a polished, consumer-friendly product with millions of active users, which could be beneficial for any tech company looking to expand its user base and strengthen its position in the AI arms race.
  • The companies could also be after Perplexity AI’s expert team, including the co-founders, who could drive the giant’s AI divisions in the right direction.
