Qualcomm, a California-based chip manufacturing company, is about to unveil a new lineup of processors for portable notebooks: the Snapdragon X series. As Qualcomm confirmed, the lineup will go official on April 24, 2024.

The lineup consists of two models: the Snapdragon X Elite and the Snapdragon X Plus. Out of these, the former is more powerful, while the latter is more efficient.

Snapdragon X Plus Specifications Leaked Via Geekbench ML Listing

Snapdragon X Plus geekbench ML scores

Ahead of the official announcement on April 24, one of the Snapdragon X Series chipsets has appeared on Geekbench ML listings. Carrying the model number X1P64100, the Snapdragon X Plus comes with 10 CPU cores with a base frequency of 3.42 GHz.

The CPU has two core clusters: one with six cores and the other with four. Further, the device that underwent Geekbench ML featured Windows 11 Pro Insider Preview (64-bit). Alongside, it had 16GB of RAM. This configuration is in line with previous reports about the processor.

The SoC Could Come In Two Models

Interestingly, the Geekbench ML listings suggest two Snapdragon X Plus SoC variants. The first model features an Oryon CPU based on the ONNX ML framework (with a score of 2,410 points). On the other hand, the second variant runs on Adreno GPU using ONNX DirectML framework (and scores 1,903 points).

Clearly, the model with the Oryon CPU is better at performing AI-related tasks.

Snapdragon X Plus Might Power Microsoft’s Next Notebook

Microsoft Surface Pro representative

According to another report by Windows Latest, the Snapdragon X Plus SoC listing on Geekbench ML belongs to a purported Microsoft notebook. Apparently, it could be the Microsoft Surface Pro 10 that underwent the benchmark test. The publication cites the model’s name, “OEMMN OEMMN,” and suggests that it belongs to the upcoming Surface notebook.

It is important to mention that Microsoft’s next big event is slated for May 20, 2024. At the event, the Windows maker will unveil the new lineup of Surface notebooks, which will run on the Snapdragon X series. Apart from Microsoft, Lenovo’s Yoga Slim 7 (2024) could also run on the Snapdragon X Elite chipset.

Windows 11’s AI Explorer Feature Could Be Exclusive To Snapdragon X Plus SoC

Per another report, the AI Explorer feature (a part of the Windows 11 24H2 update) could be exclusive to the Snapdragon X Elite SoC. In other words, PCs or notebooks with Intel or AMC processors won’t offer the feature.

This could be because of the presence of a powerful NPU on the Snapdragon SoC, something that’s missing on other processors.
