TL; DR
  • Usually, smartphones feature a passive cooling mechanism, wherein there are components (like a cooling chamber) that help the device keep the motherboard’s temperature in the optimum range.
  • Both the regular and the Pro K13 Turbo models feature a cooling fan (with a maximum rotational speed of 18,000 RPM).
  • The fan helps move the air away from the chipset and the heat sink, outside of the smartphone, through the smoke-virtualization-ready duct system.

After releasing the phone in its native market, Oppo is now turning toward India with the K13 Turbo series. The lineup consists of two models: the K13 Turbo and the K13 Turbo Pro.

While they feature impressive specifications, the main highlight of these devices isn’t the Dimensity 8450 or the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 chipsets; it is the built-in fan that maintains optimum temperature for sustained performance.

More About Oppo K13 Turbo’s Active Cooling Mechanism

Usually, smartphones feature a passive cooling mechanism, wherein there are components (like a cooling chamber) that help the device keep the motherboard’s temperature in the optimum range, but the Oppo K13 Turbo seems to break this trend (and with mid-range devices no less).

Both the regular and the Pro K13 Turbo models feature a cooling fan (with a maximum rotational speed of 18,000 RPM). The fan uses super-thin blades (0.1mm in thickness), and, along with the high rotational speed, it actively mobilizes air over the heat-generating component (which is the smartphone’s chipset, in this case).

The fan helps move the air away from the chipset and the heat sink, outside of the smartphone, through the smoke-virtualization-ready duct system. Together, all the components in the active cooling mechanism improve the internal heat dissipation by up to 20%. This is an excellent feat for a handset that doesn’t use external cooling systems.

Beyond the active heat dissipation components, the K13 Turbo series also features a 7,000 mm-square vapor chamber, which should also help in keeping the motherboard’s temperature under control, specifically during prolonged gaming sessions (or performing other demanding tasks like editing videos).

What’s even more astonishing is how Oppo has managed to retain water resistance on a handset with a working fan inside it. Both the K13 Turbo and the K13 Turbo Pro have IPX6, IPX8, and IPX9 ratings, implying that the device is fit to survive water splashes, submersion, and high-velocity jets.
