Last year, the Lenovo-owned smartphone brand Moto launched the G84 5G, one of the better entry-level smartphones in the segment. It features a 120Hz pOLED screen, a Dolby Atmos-certified speaker, and a rather capable processor. Now that we’re inching closer to the model’s annual upgrade, a tipster seems to have leaked the entire spec sheet of the Moto G85 5G. But will the phone feature enough improvements?

Moto G85 5G Vs. G84 5G: Here’s What We Know
According to tipster Sudhanshu Ambhore, the purported Moto G85 5G will feature a 6.67-inch 3D curved OLED screen with a 120Hz refresh rate and a resolution of 395 pixels per inch. In comparison, last year’s Moto G84 5G shipped with a 6.55-inch FHD+ pOLED screen with a 120Hz refresh rate. Hence, from what it looks like, it’s only the screen size that’s going up from the 2023 model.
Under the hood, the upcoming G85 5G could feature the Snapdragon 6s Gen 3 SoC, which offers a miniscule upgrade over the Snapdragon 695 SoC at best. In fact, Qualcomm even clarified that the former is based on the three-year-old chip, with minor tweaks in the CPU and GPU. The processor will be paired to either 8 or 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage on G85 5G. The G84 5G also came with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage.
Per Ambhore, the G85 5G will feature the 50MP (f/1.79, OIS) Sony IMX882 primary sensor and an 8MP (f/2.2, 118.6-degree) ultrawide sensor with autofocus. In comparison, the G84 5G featured a 50MP Samsung ISOCELL S5KGN9 primary sensor and an 8MP ultrawide sensor. So even though the configuration remains the same, Moto could change the primary camera on its upcoming smartphone.

However, the front camera may receive a significant upgrade, with a 32MP sensor (as opposed to the 16MP sensor on the current model). The video recording ability, however, remains at 1080p @ 60 fps. In terms of the battery, the upcoming smartphone borrows the 5,000 mAh cell and its charging speed from the G84 5G. Connectivity options on the G85 5G also seem to be similar, including Bluetooth v5.1, NFC, and USB 2.0.
Last but not least, the Moto G85 5G will come in three colors, including dark blue, a greenish-yellow shade, and dark gray. Moreover, it looks like the G85 5G will be an incremental upgrade at best, as the company is using most of the specifications and hardware from last year’s phone. Nonetheless, there’s still some time before the official launch of the smartphone, and although unlikely, there’s a chance that the company could include some meaningful additions to the smartphone.
