The Taiwan-based chip manufacturer MediaTek has announced two new Wi-Fi 7 modems, Filogic 860 and Filogic 360. While the former is an industrial solution, the latter is for consumer-grade devices like smartphones and laptops. These offer improved connectivity and higher download/upload speeds. Here’s everything you need to know about the new Wi-Fi 7 modems, specifications, and other related features.

Filogic 860 Wi-Fi 7 Modem For Enterprise Solutions

MediaTek’s Filogic 860 is a wireless network solution based on Wi-Fi 7. It utilizes a 6nm low-power design and promises a complete platform that can act as a mesh node, router, and access point for other devices. It also supports up to 7.2Gbps transfer speeds via dual-band, dual-concurrent connectivity.

Under the hood, the Wi-Fi modem features a triple-core Arm Cortext-A73 processor, which powers advanced security features and tunneling for service providers and businesses.

Filogic 360 Wi-Fi 7 Modem For Consumer-Grade Products

While Filogic 860 is a chip for enterprises and network solutions, Filogic 360 provides 2×2 and triple band support with wireless data transfer speeds of up to 2.9Gbps. Supported channel bandwidth is 160MHz. When it comes to Bluetooth, the modem has dual Bluetooth v5.4 cores with support for Low Energy Audio. It also supports LC3 codec.

MediaTek also claims its advanced technology will allow Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth signals to coexist, even if both are set to 2.4GHz. Although the company has begun sampling, the modems will enter mass production by mid-2024. It is worth noting that Wi-Fi 7, as a wireless data transfer protocol, can provide up to 46Gbps bandwidth. However, any solution, including MediaTek’s latest Wi-Fi 7 modems, is far from achieving the number.

MediaTek’s Wi-Fi 7 Modems’ Availability

Nonetheless, the Wi-FI modems from MediaTek still perform better than the Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 6E modems that current smartphones, tablets, laptops, and other consumer-grade electronic devices use. Given the modems will enter mass production in mid-2024, we should expect to see devices featuring the modem in late 2024.
