Over the weekend, Elon Musk’s xAI unveiled its highly anticipated AI model, Grok, with an ambitious goal in mind – to make “grokking” a verb akin to “googling.” Musk’s latest venture into the world of artificial intelligence has generated significant buzz in the tech community.

After Musk’s announcement on X (formerly known as Twitter) that Grok had been officially released, users quickly began comparing it to established AI platforms like OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Alphabet Inc.’s Google Bard, and Microsoft Corporation’s Bing AI.

One user playfully dubbed ChatGPT as “Woke” and Grok as “Based,” emphasizing the distinct personalities of these AI models. While ChatGPT was characterized as “Polite and annoying,” Grok received praise for being “Sarcastic and Funny.” Notably, the user humorously pointed out that ChatGPT’s name seemed “stupid,” while xAI’s Grok was lauded as “a verb.” Musk himself expressed his vision for Grok by stating, “Groking will become like Googling.”

The choice of the name “Grok” received attention due to its phonetic similarity to “Google.” Musk himself endorsed this idea, suggesting that Grok is what users would desire from an AI platform.

What distinguishes Grok from its competition is its unique ability to tap into real-time data from platform X, enabling it to provide immediate insights and responses. This sets Grok apart from other AI models that rely on static datasets.

Musk and xAI have already indicated that Grok’s early performance matches Meta Platforms’ LLaMA 2 and holds its own against Anthropic’s Claude model in academic testing.

Looking ahead, Musk has revealed plans to make Grok accessible to all X Premium Plus subscribers once it exits the early beta phase. This move positions Grok as a significant feature within X’s newly introduced premium subscription level, underlining its importance in the evolving landscape of AI interactions.

As Grok continues to gain momentum and recognition in the AI realm, it appears poised to redefine how people engage with and interact with artificial intelligence, all while striving to make “grokking” as commonplace as “googling” in the digital lexicon.
