Google Gemini Advancements

The Tuesday event had its own Gemini segment with Google confirming Gemini AI rolling out across devices becoming default assistant. After smartphones, Gemini will be available in cars (Android Auto and those with Google built-in), Wear OS smartwatches, Android Smart TVs, and upcoming Android XR devices.

Google wants it’s AI products to integrate with as many apps as possible and run on as much hardware as possible so this advancement makes complete sense for the company. Those who like Gemini and Gemini Live will want the same thing and Gemini’s productivity will enhance if it can pull data from various Google apps and be accessible across multiple devices.

Gemini enhances your productivity on the road, provided you connect your Android device to your vehicle or utilize a car equipped with Google technology. Users can communicate naturally with the AI to perform various tasks, such as sending messages to contacts or consistently texting a specific individual in another language. Additionally, users can request Gemini to suggest nearby locations, such as restaurants and charging stations, leveraging Google Maps to retrieve relevant information.

Gemini will now be able to pull information from Gmail, like a location sent via email, or also help you find content on apps like YouTube Music and Spotify.

Talking about Gemini Live, it will let users have real-time voice conversations with AI about any topic in the world. You will be able to pass your time while on the commute and stay updated with the latest news. It will even help you prep for any important meetings that you have.

Gemini on Smartwatches

Gemini on Wear OS will necessitate an internet connection via your smartphone or the watch’s cellular service, although certain features will function independently on the device. Much like in vehicles, Gemini AI on wearables will utilize data from other Google applications. You will have the convenience of speaking to your wrist rather than retrieving your smartphone from your pocket. Additionally, Gemini will be capable of storing reminders, locker codes, and parking slot numbers. The Pixel watches will be the first to receive this AI technology.

Gemini on Google TV will show better recommendations, and AI will answer questions by pulling relevant YouTube clips, too.

Gemini on XR Devices

Google has rolled out Gemini AI for Android XR devices too, starting with Samsung’s first XR model set to launch later in 2025. Google claims that Gemini will be central to Android XR and serve as the main user interface layer for Android XR devices.

It will possess its own multimodal vision and audio features to react to users’ visual and auditory inputs. This AI will provide a unique experience distinct from other devices. For instance, Gemini will assist you in planning a trip by immersing you in videos, maps, and local insights, generating an itinerary in just minutes, and giving you an authentic sense of the destination you are exploring.

Gemini AI will roll out to all these smart devices and vehicles later in 2025, so we will have to wait to know how Google AI makes the experience smarter.

Other announcements during the Android Show

  • Google’s design for Android, Material 3 Expressive is one of the most significant shifts in last few years. It is a mix of livelier animations, typography and color schemes.
  • Android 16 has brought new security enhancements too. AI-powered system will now identify spam messages and calls and another feature will allow users to grant accessibility permissions during a call with an unknown number.
  • The current Find My Network is being replaced with a new system called Find Hub, which will allow users to locate their Android devices, compatible accessories, and tracking tags.
