Three years ago, the original OnePlus Open did the impossible: it actually made Samsung look worried. It was thinner, faster, and had better screens than the Galaxy Fold. Fans have been waiting for a sequel ever since, but it looks like that wait might never end.

OnePlus confirmed last year that the sequel to the phone was expected to launch this year. Now, we have obtained exclusive details from a reliable industry insider, Yogesh Brar, regarding the fate of OnePlus Open 2.

OnePlus Open 2 Global Launch Cancelled

We have learned that the global launch of the OnePlus Open 2 has been cancelled. Originally scheduled to debut worldwide by early Q3 2026, the Open 2 was expected to be the big Summer release from the brand.

While it is hard to pinpoint a reason for this sudden pivot, but one of them has to be the inflating RAM & ROM pricing, which is already affecting launch & pricing for most products. The Open 2 was already in advanced testing stages, and this decision leaves a massive void in the foldable market space. Our source indicates that while the global version is shelved, the underlying hardware will still see the light of day in select markets under different branding, as the Oppo Find N6.

The Open 2 wasn’t just an iterative update; it was a generational leap in performance and display technology. It is said to be packing an 8.12-inch 2K main folding screen and a 6.6-inch AMOLED cover display. Crucially, both panels supported a blistering 165Hz refresh rate.

The phone was powered by the cutting-edge Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, paired with a top-tier 16GB RAM and 1TB storage configuration. On the optics side of things, the Open 2 had a triple 50MP camera setup on the rear with a Ultrawide and Telephoto sensors. It also featured a 32MP selfie camera on the cover and a 20MP sensor on the inner display. Lastly, the Open 2 featured a 6,000mAh battery with 80W wired charging and 50W wireless charging support.

The prototype seen by our source featured a sophisticated black faux leather finish and a chassis design reminiscent of the Huawei Mate X7. The production units were expected to launch in at least two colourways: Black and a new, industrial Titanium shade.
