India became the only right-hand-drive market for the BMW 5 Series LWB as the German automaker revealed the luxury sedan. The 5 Series will compete directly with the Mercedes E-Class, which has been the leader in the long-wheelbase segment for quite some time. Although the company has saved all the hot pieces of information for July (such as price), here’s what we know about the new BMW 5 Series LWB’s right-hand-drive variant.

BMW 5 Series LWB Design

The 5 Series LWB carries the iconic BMW design language with a relatively sportier exterior and a luxurious interior. The most striking element, however, is the sedan’s length. Measuring at 5.175 meters, the 5 Series LWB is longer than the E-Class LWB. In fact, the BMW is larger than the upcoming E-Class LWB, which will measure 5.092 meters.

On the front, there are the illuminated kidney grills, along with matrix LED headlights. The sharp front bumper joins the windshield, which later forms a rather flatter roof till the rear passenger’s head. The company likes to call this the “2.5-boxdesign.” This allows for more headroom for the rear passenger, which is mostly where the owners of this luxury sedan will sit.

Looking at the vehicle from the side, you’ll notice the classy contour lines and contrasting colors on the bodywork. However, as you get enough of the shiny exterior, your gaze will come across Y-spoke alloys. Although the wheels carry one of the unique designs in the segment, they are smaller 18-inch alloys with a thin 225-section (as compared to the old 5 Series, which had 275-section tires at the rear and 245-section at the front).

The BMW 5 Series LWB has a rather clean rear design. The bumper features the company logo in the center, sleek LED tail lights on the side, and metallic inserts on the bottom. On the inside, the 5 Series features twin curved screens. While the infotainment measures 14.9 inches, the instrument cluster measures 12.3 inches. The chunky steering wheel carries the three-spoke design.

With vegan leather upholstery, the rear seats provide a 31-degree recline for comfortable journeys. However, the company misses on ventilated seats for the rear passengers. Further, the entertainment screen for rear passengers is optional as well. Given that the heat wave is getting worse in the country, the absence of a moonroof blind also feels like a big miss.

BMW 5 Series LWB Powertrain

Although details about the BMW 5 Series LWB’s powertrains aren’t available at the moment, it should be available in both diesel and petrol variants. Both variants could feature 2.0-litre engines with a mild-hybrid system.
