The Taiwanese visual solution provider BenQ has launched the world’s first AI home cinema projector, the BenQ W2720i, in India. Commanding a premium price, the 4K projector comes with the AI Cinema Mode, can project a screen of up to 200 inches, and offers built-in Android TV for ease of use. BenQ places the W2720i as a home cinema projector, and for the same, it has equipped the projector with several features. First and foremost, the projector offers a true 4K UHD resolution (with 8.3 million pixels). Second, it provides a 2500 ANSI-Lumen 4LED light source with a lifespan of up to 30,000 hours.

Regarding the screen projector distance, the device can project a 120-inch screen from a distance of 2.7 meters, making it ideal for tight spaces (like smaller living rooms, compact offices, or home theater setups). Further, the projector can go up to 200 inches (if projected diagonally in the same space). Other features include a 1.3x zoom, Auto Screen Fit, 8-point Corner Fit, and Vertical Lens Shift.

However, the main highlight of the BenQ W2720i projector happens to be the AI Cinema Mode, which uses camera sensors to sense the ambient bright and scene-specific requirements and adjust the picture quality in real time. In the company’s words, the projector makes “scene-specific enhancements to provide an experience that’s tailored to every user.”

To add to the experience, the projector also features BenQ’s CinematicColor technology, which covers 90% of the DCI P3 color gamut, which ensures that the colors produced are accurate; there’s a dedicated Filmkaer Mode as well. Then there’s the HDR-Pro feature that enhances contrast to reveal the details in bright or dark scenes. In addition, the projector also supports HDR10+ and HLG formats.

The BenQ W2720i has built-in Android TV, with 4K streaming services like Netflix and Disney+ (presumably changed to JioHostar after the recent merger). Connectivity options on the projector include one HDMI 2.1 port (for 4K @ 120Hz), two HDMI 2.0b ports, one SPDIF, and support for eARC for 7.1 channel Dolby Atmos pass-through.

The maximum retail price of the BenQ BenQ W2720i has been set at Rs. 3,50,000, which is a bit on the higher side, but considering the features provided by the projector and the fact that it can create a 120-inches screen in a small room with accurate colors, seems about right.

The projector will be available across all leading retail home AVSI partners starting in April 2025.
