Homegrown electric scooter brand Ather held its Ather Community Day event on August 30, 2025 where the company unveiled its new EL platform for two wheelers. Alongside the EL platform, Ather also unveiled the EL01 concept scooter based on the EL platform, offering a glimpse into the brand’s upcoming mass market models. In this article, we will take a look at all the key highlights that make the EL platform look quite promising.

EL Platform – All You Need To Know

The new EL platform is different from the current one used on Ather’s 450 and Rizta series. It is an all-steel unibody chassis which can support a range of battery sizes between 2kWh and 5kWh. It is a single piece platform where the battery is placed on the floorboard, allowing for variations in body styles like maxi-scooter, sports scooters, family oriented models, and the likes.

The EL platform also aims to make it easier to assemble a two-wheeler. With fewer parts to assemble thanks to the new platform, Ather expects faster production times and reduced costs. According to the brand, maintenance is also projected to be simpler, with new brakes that produce less wear and an aim to cut down servicing time and costs by half.

Ather EL01 Concept Scooter – All You Need To Know

The EL01 concept scooter was also showcased at the Ather Community Day event. This is the first concept based on the EL platform. The scooter comes as a family-friendly option featuring LED lighting, a large floorboard along with a big underseat boot that can easily fit two helmets, 14-inch wheels and a display which can also support Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

Can This Be The Activa For Ather?

Apart from introducing the new scooters, the EL01 platform is also said to make Ather scooters more accessible and affordable. Not only in terms of the cost of the vehicle, but also the cost of ownership, something that has been missing in the otherwise promising two wheelers that the homegrown brand has been making for the past few years.

Taking the challenge to the likes of Ola and Vida, which are considered more mass-market as compared to Ather’s 450 and Rizta series, the EL platform could definitely do for Ather what the Activa did for Honda back in the 2000s.
