TL; DR
  • Greg Joswiak, Apple’s SVP, has teased (and confirmed) the launch of a new MacBook.
  • We believe the company executive is referring to the M5 MacBook Pro, specifically the 14-inch variant that utilizes the baseline M chip in a series.
  • While the M5 chip could feature a 10-core CPU on the MacBook Pro, Apple could also release a nine-core version for the upcoming iPad Pro.

Throughout the latter part of last week, Apple was rumored to release new M5-powered devices, including a new MacBook, an updated iPad Pro, and a refresh of the Vision Pro. Earlier today, a top Apple executive confirmed the launch of a MacBook via a cryptic yet decipherable teaser on the microblogging platform X.

Greg Joswiak, Apple’s SVP, has teased (and confirmed) the launch of a new MacBook. Although he didn’t mention the product, the teaser video shows the shadow or silhouette of a laptop in the shape of the Roman numeral V, hinting at the presence of Apple’s M5 chip inside. The video is published alongside the caption “Mmmmm… something powerful is coming.”

The Entry-Level MacBook Pro Could Take The Plunge

We believe the company executive is referring to the M5 MacBook Pro, specifically the 14-inch variant that utilizes the baseline M chip in a series, rather than the Pro or Max versions. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has also reported on the arrival of an entry-level MacBook Pro featuring Apple’s M5 chip. Expect the other MacBook Pro and MacBook Air models based on the new chip to arrive in 2026 (possibly around March).

While the M5 chip could feature a 10-core CPU on the MacBook Pro, Apple could also release a nine-core version for the upcoming iPad Pro. For those catching up, a Russian YouTuber has already unboxed an M5-powered iPad Pro, which somewhat confirms the theory. The unboxing video also confirms the benchmark score of the chipset (suggesting an incremental power update over the M4 chip).

Other Devices With M5 Chip Also Expected

Finally, Apple could also update the Vision Pro with the M5 chipset to keep it alive. The processing power at the chip’s disposal should help keep the headset at the top of the mixed-reality market, but even so, it will continue to remain out of the reach of a majority of customers, owing to its steep price tag.
