Apple’s Vision Pro couldn’t achieve the sales numbers the company expected. Due to its high cost and limited availibility, Apple couldn’t sell as many units. The slumped demand has sped up the efforts to make a cheaper version of the Vision Pro, called Vision. Most recently, a reliable publication has divulged some information about the affordable Vision headset.

According to the latest Bloomberg report, the initial prototypes of Apple’s affordable Vision headset will have a narrower field of view, especially compared to the $3,499 Vision Pro. Further, in order to cut costs, the company is focussing on making the headset reliant on a connected iPhone or Mac via tethering.

Apple Vision Won’t Be A Standalone Device
This is one of the stark differences compared to Vision Pro, which has a dual-processor design to handle all the processing. If the affordable Vision headset relies on a tethered iPhone or MacBook, then the company would have to spend less money on equipping it with processors. Moreover, the Vision headset might not be a standalone product.

Here’s When The Cheaper Apple Headset Could Hit The Market
The report also mentions that Apple aims to launch the affordable version of its headset by the end of 2025. Although the company isn’t prioritizing the second-generation Vision Pro, it is still in the pipeline. While the cheaper Vision is codenamed N107, the successor to the Vision Pro is codenamed N109. The latter, per the report, could be released by the end of 2026.
