The Cupertino-based tech giant Apple has refeshed the MacBook Air lineup with its M4 chipset. With faster performance and higher efficiency, the M4 chip takes portable computing to the next level. With better memory bandwidth, improved support for external display, and higher unified memory on the baseline variants, the new MacBook Air is one of the best devices in the company’s lineup.

Design
The 2025 MacBook Air has a familiar design. It features a textured aluminum casing with the company’s mascot in the center of the top lid. Apple maintains the thin profile of the notebook, along with the ports on the side (MagSafe 3, 3.5mm headphone jack, and two Thunderbolt/USB 4 ports).
The M4 MacBook Air is available in four colors: Sky Blue, Silver, Starlight, and Midnight.
Display
The M4 MacBook Air is available in two screen sizes.
There’s a smaller version that has a 13.6-inch Liquid Retina display with a resolution of 1560 x 1664 pixels and a peak brightness of 500 nits.
There’s another bigger version with a 15.3-inch Liquid Retina display with 2880 x 1864 pixels and similar peak brightness.
Both versions have a notch at the top of the screen, cover a wide color (P3) gamut, and support Apple’s True Tone technology.

Performance
Under its shiny exterior resides Apple’s new M4 chip, offering a significant performance upgrade over the M3 chip. Buyers can configure the Apple silicon per their requirements: they can get it in the baseline version with an eight-core CPU and eight-core GPU or in the top version with a 10-core CPU and a 10-core GPU.
What’s good is that both the M4 variants have 16GB of unified memory (with 120GB/s memory bandwidth) and go up to 32GB. However, the baseline storage still remains at 256GB, which isn’t ideal for users who deal with multiple files, videos, or heavy applications. Nonetheless, the M4 MacBook Air is available with up to 2TB of SSD storage.
The new 16-core Neural Engine on the M4 chip is capable of 38 TOPS, which is almost double the computational power provided by the Neural Engine on the M3 chipset. As a result, the notebook should be more efficient at running the Apple Intelligence features.
External Display
The M4 chip on the MacBook Air supports up to two external displays with up to 6K resolution at 60Hz via Thunderbolt 4 video output.
Camera
Like the 2024 iMac, the 2025 MacBook Air features a 12MP Center Stage camera with support for Desk View. It features a sensor with a 122-degree field of view that captures ultrawide footage. Later, machine learning recognizes the user’s face and keeps them in the center, even when they are moving. This way, the camera system keeps the subject in the frame.
What’s good is that the MacBook also supports the Voice Isolation and the Wide Spectrum microphone modes. However, the resolution of the camera remains the same: 1080p HD.

Battery Life
Given that the M4 chipset is based on the second-generation 3nm fabrication technology, it draws less power than the M3 chipset. However, the increase in efficiency is offset by the increase in performance.
