Amazon Prime vs. Flipkart Black
The biggest e-commerce giants in the country, Amazon and Flipkart, are betting on membership programs to lock in loyal customers and boost their service revenue. While Amazon Prime has been around for quite some time (and has now branched into sub-memberships that offer curated benefits), Flipkart Black is the Walmart-backed platform’s answer to Prime, as it includes both shopping and entertainment benefits.
Given that both are priced at Rs. 1,499 annually (and both are available at a discounted price), which membership offers more value for your money in 2025? In this article, we’ll compare the effective price of the memberships, the shopping and delivery-related benefits, rewards and cashback rates, entertainment bundles, and any other additional perks that they have to offer.

Amazon Prime vs. Flipkart Black: Price
Amazon Prime

The standard Amazon Prime membership (which has been around for years) costs Rs. 1,499. While the platform previously offered a special offer that slashed its price to Rs. 750 (until last year), that is no longer the case. However, you can still receive a Rs. 150 discount if you purchase the membership through discount coupons provided via third-party aggregators, such as Swiggy One and Cred.
- Amazon Prime (Standard) Effective Price: Rs. 1,350 for a year
Flipkart Black

The Flipkart Black membership also costs Rs. 1,499, but as part of a limited-time introductory offer, the e-commerce platform is selling it for Rs. 990. While the official FAQ page mentions the discount as an “early bird offer,” the exact timeframe for which the offer is available is unclear. Even so, for comparison purposes, we’ll consider the Flipkart Black price to be Rs. 999 throughout this article.
- Flipkart Black Effective Price: Rs. 990 for a year
Right off the bat, the Flipkart Black membership seems to have a more affordable price tag, but we’d also have to consider the included benefits, as they might offset the initial cost for either platform.

Amazon Prime vs. Flipkart Black: Delivery & Rewards
Amazon Prime

With the standard Amazon Prime membership, you get shopping-related benefits. These include same-day (Rs. 99), one-day (Rs. 79), two-day (Rs. 59), and scheduled or standard delivery (Rs. 40) options, with no minimum order value required for free standard delivery.
Further, Prime members get early access to Lightning Deals, Exclusive Lightning Deals, and Deals of the Day. In addition, subscribers also get early access to annual sale events, such as Prime Day or Great Indian Festival sale, wherein the platforms offer excellent deals on electronics (on a curated catalog), home appliances, and other items.
Prime members with an Amazon Pay ICICI also get 5% (flat) cashback on Prime-fulfilled purchases made on the platform. Additional offers include No Cost EMI on selected items, and periodic bank offers (which are also available for non-Prime members).
- Let’s say you order 10 items worth Rs. 200 on Amazon at different times, and all of them qualify for standard delivery, you’re getting free services worth Rs. 400 (10 x Rs. 40 for each one-day delivery).
- Furthermore, if you’re paying for the items using the Amazon Pay ICICI credit card, you can also receive Rs. 100 in cashback (5% of the total order amount, which is Rs. 2,000 in this case) credited to your Amazon Pay balance when the card’s statement is generated.
Flipkart Black

While Flipkart Black doesn’t specifically outline the delivery-related benefits, it focuses more on SuperCoins earnings (1 SuperCoin = Re 1).
First of all, the membership lets you earn 5% SuperCoins (up to 100) on every order on Flipkart and Minutes (Flipkart’s quick-commerce platform). When you go to redeem these points, Black membership lets you get an additional 5% off (up to Rs. 1,000) using SuperCoins. It’s worth noting that SuperCoins are credited post the product’s return period.
Other shopping-related benefits include exclusive offers on premium gadgets and brands (called Flipkart Black Deals), 15% bank offers during major sale events, and early access to annual sale events. In addition, the subscription promises priority customer support (24/7), wherein buyers don’t have to wait in a queue to get their concerns addressed.
I can see several buyers getting the subscription only to get the best deals during the Big Billion Days sale, which has a reputation for offering unmatched deals on popular smartphones, particularly iPhones
Flipkart has also partnered with Cleartrip to offer flight cancellation and rescheduling at just Rs. 1. The offer is applicable for up to two passengers on any trip value (including one-way and round trips), but is limited to one domestic booking per year (which makes it much less appealing to frequent flyers, and more like an additional feature that regular customers can avail).
- Considering that you order 10 items worth Rs. 200 each via Flipkart Black, you’ll receive SuperCoins worth Rs. 100 (after the return period for all the products ends), which you can redeem when ordering another product in the future.
- Furthermore, if you order products using the Flipkart Axis Bank credit card, you can receive an additional Rs. 100 in cashback.
If you consider the direct, upfront discount, the Black membership gives you benefits worth Rs. 200 (SuperCoins + cashback), which are higher than the Rs. 100 cashback that Amazon Prime offers on purchasing items worth Rs. 2,000.
However, if you consider the delivery fee that Amazon mentions so eloquently, the Prime membership saves you Rs. 500 (delivery charges + cashback).

Amazon Prime vs. Flipkart Black: Entertainment Bundle

Although Amazon doesn’t put a price on it, the Prime membership includes complimentary access to the Prime Video OTT platform (including movies, series, several original shows), Prime Music (songs and podcasts), Prime Reading (with select e-books), and Prime Gaming. This adds to the perceived value of the membership.
On the other hand, Flipkart Black bundles a YouTube Premium annual membership worth Rs. 1,499, which will be valid for 365 days from the date of activation of the Black membership. Needless to say, YouTube is an ocean of content, wherein you can watch everything from a well-produced web series to authentic, user-generated content on a topic, along with access to music tracks.
In a way, the Flipkart returns the entire cost it charges upfront (more if you get it at Rs. 990) with the YouTube Black membership.
Amazon Prime vs. Flipkart Black: Conclusion
On the surface, it appears that the Flipkart Black membership offers more value with YouTube Premium access and direct discounts (in the form of SuperCoins, though redeemable on subsequent orders). Furthermore, it also provides buyers with early access to Flipkart’s major sale events. The membership’s benefits on Flipkart’s quick-commerce platform are a bonus.
However, the Amazon Prime membership offers all-around utility with early access to deals and the entertainment bundle, which includes Prime Video, Prime Music, and other services. The cost of same-day or next-day deliveries, when viewed over a year, could offset the initial cost alone.
Ultimately, you should get the membership that suits your shopping preferences. If you’re an avid Flipkart user, getting the Black membership could be particularly beneficial, especially ahead of the festive season sale. On the other hand, if you prefer Amazon, you can’t go wrong with the Prime membership.
