Microsoft recently acknowledged that Windows devices may encounter VPN connection failures after installing the April 2024 security update (KB5036893) or the April 2024 non-security preview update. This issue affects all personal and enterprise Windows 11, Windows 10, Windows Server 2008, and later versions.
The security update was intended to enhance system security and address potential vulnerabilities. However, it appears to have inadvertently disrupted VPN functionality for some users.
What Are The Fixes?
Microsoft has advised users who have installed the security update and are experiencing VPN connection issues to proceed with caution. While it is possible to uninstall the update or roll back to a previous version via the command line, we do not recommend this course of action as it may expose your system to other vulnerabilities.

Microsoft suggests using the “Get Help” app to perhaps fix the VPN connection problem. A quick note here: this may not resolve the issue completely, as the root cause lies within the software or, should I say, the security update itself.
Microsoft is Working on a Permanent Fix
Microsoft has assured users that they are actively working on a fix for the VPN connection problem. In the meantime, all you can do is wait and exercise caution when accessing sensitive information over public networks.
“We are working on a resolution and will provide an update in an upcoming release,” said Microsoft.
